Geister Duo
David Salmon and Manuel Vieillard, piano four-hands

Formed by the French pianists David Salmon and Manuel Vieillard, the Geister Duo has established itself as one of the most distinctive and acclaimed ensembles of its generation in the repertoire for piano four-hands and piano duet.

Having won awards at several international competitions, notably the Monaco International Four-Hand Piano Competition and the ARD International Music Competition in Munich – where they were awarded First Prize in 2021 – the duo captivates audiences with the precision of their playing, the richness of their tonal colours and a truly chamber-music approach to sharing the keyboard.

Following their first two recordings, dedicated to Brahms, Schumann and Dvořák, and then to Debussy and Stravinsky, David Salmon and Manuel Vieillard have released their most ambitious recording project to date: the complete works for four-hand piano by Franz Schubert. Recorded at the Auditorium of the Opéra National de Bordeaux, this collection of over eight hours of repertoire is one of the major productions dedicated to this ensemble, for which Schubert was one of the greatest masters.

Invited to perform on the world’s leading international stages, the Geister Duo has recently appeared at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Schubertiade in Austria, the Seoul Arts Centre and the Salle Bourgie in Montreal. They are also continuing to develop their symphonic repertoire through new collaborations, notably with the hr-Sinfonieorchester conducted by Alain Altinoglu, and with the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Aziz Shokhakimov.

Through the high standards of their work, the rapport between the two performers and their commitment to a repertoire that is at once intimate, orchestral and deeply poetic, the Geister Duo restores the full chamber-music dimension to four-hand piano playing.
